Gina Ford grew up on a farm in the Scottish Borders, where her love of caring for children began at an early age. On moving to Edinburgh to study Hospitality and Catering, she joined a premier babysitting agency to supplement her college course and was hugely popular with parents of young babies.
After several years working internationally, Gina returned to the UK and pursued a career in childcare. Specialising in newborn care, feeding and sleep issues, she became one of the country's most sought-after maternity nurses, working with hundreds of families in the UK and abroad. Her expertise earned her recognition as one of the UK's top maternity nurses. During her career, she worked with families from all walks of life, including leading politicians, pop stars, internationally renowned actors and members of royal families, all of whom trusted Gina with their very precious babies.
Passionate about supporting both babies and their parents, Gina develops gentle, baby-centred routines that help families establish healthy sleeping and feeding patterns. Gina's routines, unlike the strict old fashioned four hourly routines, change nine times during the first year to ensure the individual ever-changing sleeping, feeding and emotional needs of all babies are met.
In 1999 she published The Contented Little Baby Book, which became a bestselling parenting guide and has sold over two million copies worldwide. It has also been published in the USA and in several foreign language editions including Spanish, Hebrew, Dutch, Portuguese, Polish, Russian and Chinese. Since the success of her first book, Gina has gone on to write a further twelve books covering subjects such as Weaning, Feeding, Sleeping and Potty Training, as well as Twins and Nutrition.
Following her retirement from maternity nursing in 2000, Gina established a consultancy service, providing personalised support to thousands of parents around the world. Her continued direct contact with families has enabled her to maintain a unique understanding of the challenges parents face, resulting in happier, more settled and contented babies, and practical solutions that can make family life calmer and more enjoyable.
